Liesbeth is a Chilean parasite ecologist and research associate at DGFC, currently leading the Health at the Edge Project together with Sergio. During her PhD she combined wildlife surveys, landscape ecology, genetics and laboratory parasitology to understand primate and parasite community dynamics in Malaysian Borneo. After finishing her bachelor studies as physical anthropologist at the University of Chile and graduated from her masters in epidemiology at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (Brasil), she became more interested in understanding the processes involved in infectious disease transmission at the human-wildlife interface, and the implications for wildlife health monitoring, conservation and management, and public health. In April 2019, Liesbeth and Sergio launched the Health at the Edge Project.
