
Diana Ramirez graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) with a Degree in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry (D.V.M) in 2005. In 2009 she obtained a Certificate on Wildlife Medicine, from the Mexican Centre of Advanced Veterinary Medicine Studies (CEAMVET).
As a wildlife veterinarian, her experience in Mexico included the monitoring, sampling and tracking of wild howler monkeys. She also worked as chief veterinarian in a Safari-Zoo, and as wildlife veterinarian in various zoos (including Mexico City’s Chapultepec and Aragon Zoos).
In 2010 she joined the Sabah Wildlife Department’s Wildlife Rescue Unit (WRU) and Danau Girang Field Centre assisting on wildlife anaesthesia, capture, rescue and translocation. Currently, as WRU Assistant Manager, she also coordinates and leads the WRU team on its operations throughout Sabah.
Diana is performing a Master in Science at the Institute of Tropical Biology and Conservation (ITBC), Universiti Sabah Malaysia, with the project “Health Evaluation and comparative status of free- ranging proboscis monkeys (Nasalis larvatus) on their natural habitat in Borneo, Sabah, Malaysia”. Diana’s project is part of DGFC’s “Proboscis Monkey Conservation Program” .
