Ashraft is a proud Malaysian who is greatly interested in the effects of forest fragmentation towards wildlife and plants. He is also interested in forest rehabilitation and social and environmental justice of indigenous people. He had the opportunity to study leaf traits of eucalyptus along an aridity gradient in Victoria, Australia, and to work closely with an indigenous tribe in the United States: the Lac du Flambeau Band of the Ojibwe during his undergraduate years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He will soon start his MSc with Universiti Malaysia Sabah and will embark on an exciting research project of hornbills. Acap hopes that this project will improve the ecology and conservation knowledge of hornbills in Sabah, especially benefiting the local community, and also the scientific community.
